Varun Arya proves that where there is a will there is a way. Even in India. Especially in India. Where merit will triumph. Against all odds.

Yes, you can make it in India, on merit. Even if you were zero-start. Yes, it is tough, but poverty can not be your destiny. And you can live your truths.

This is the story of one man. Varun Arya. From extremely humble beginnings, through school, IIT-Delhi, IIM-Ahmedabad, MNCs in India and abroad, and then back to his roots.

But there's a difference.

Varun Arya will not bribe. Regardless of how high or low.

And that includes the highest in the country.

In not so surprising revelations, Varun tells his story, and puts down what nobody has done before though it is well known.

BUT VARUN ARYA WILL NOT BRIBE.

Basic honesty is often laughed at in India now, and that is a true reflection of the strange times we find ourselves in, let us not mince any words about this.

Some of us, however, learnt that carrying this concept all the way would also work. My late father, for example, would refuse to pay a bribe - fully aware of the fact that it would take him longer to get his work done. However, he was not a businessman, and to be fair, his exposure to the realities of life in India as an ex-Army Officer were different. At the same time, we learn from our fathers, and what I learnt from him was that in every organisation, at some level or the other, there would be helpful people who would do the work they were supposed to do.

And that's true. We tend to view organisations, especially Government authorities, as vast homogeneous entities, out to take the juice out of what they refer to as the "general public".

Which is also, often and sadly, true. There are some public authorities in India which are, top to bottom, so corrupt now, that the few honest people left inside them are typically and totally side-lined.

This, then, is the story of Varun Arya.

A man who refuses to bribe. In India.

A book for everybody who wants to know how to succeed in India and stay true, too, to basic truths. Honestly.

And that's why this book is so important.

Because, like so many of us, he is Just an Indian.

Just an Indian the Man who Will not Bribe eBook Veeresh Malik

I think very highly of this book, though it does have some flaws. Some parts are repetitive, which becomes tiresome; others have a few small portions which are not translated to English, so I unfortunately was unable to appreciate the full message of those parts. However, there are some gems, things worth hiking through the mountains to find. I learned a lot about the educational, corporate, and bureaucratic system in India currently, and marvel at Varun Arya's persistence, character, and faith. And also that of his family. I suppose I should say I think very highly of Mr. Arya from reading this book, and so I think highly of the book despite some shortcomings. It is worth reading through a bit of repetition to learn what this man and his associates are trying to do against enormous odds.

Just an Indian the Man who Will not Bribe eBook Veeresh Malik Reviews

Veeresh Malik is not a man who minces his words. He gets to the root of the problem and tells it like it is. If you want to cut through the headlines, the showbiz of news, the finely crafted images that our politicians create, Veeresh is the man to call. He has a knack for picking up the pulse on the street. And that pulse at present is very much in keeping with the subject matter of this book. Finding a man who will not bribe in our country, or a man who will not accept a bribe, is probably a harder task than one would imagine - unfortunately. We need more men like Prof. Varun Arya. We can only hope that more people follow his lead after reading this book...
A very honest book. Clear, simple style of writing. I love the way the writer has related his experiences in the book.
Downloaded the book 5 days back. Could not read all the time but have to admit that it used to keep me awake for at least 3 hours even after a tiring 12 hours work shift.
The language is hard hitting yet fluid, carrying the narration as a feather on the wind.
Mr. Arya, please take my bow for not bowing down and a salute to VM for presenting the story to us.
My rating - Two thumbs and two toes up.
A true story of the deterrmination and daunted efforts of Varun Arya to set up an educational institute in India. While the commitment of Varun amazes you, the attitude of the bribe-seekers and the extent to which a Government institution can go to harass bribe refusers is simply shocking! While on the one hand, one wishes that such stories may inspires more to tread on this path of ethical practices facing any hurdles thrown at you, on the other hand, one wonders if someone would opt for it now knowing what the high and mighty are capable of doing to you and your dream projects! No words for the lowly level to which we have stooped collectively as a society! A must read for anyone who wants to do something for our country! Regards Gopinath Mavinkurve
"Just an Indian - the Man who Will not Bribe"- A true story of Prof. Varun Arya.

Yesterday my wife eagerly asked me to purchase this e-book as she could not resist her enthusiasm ...I immediately purchased on my kindle and gave it to her to read it...

She told me that the book is simple to read and inspires throughout ...though she also expressed that it takes you in a sorry state as it depicts the prevailing corruption at all levels.
Prof. Varun Arya is an example for all of us...
She shared her concern about the current situation faced by Prof. Arya on renewal issue and expressed that continuing corruption and it can be used in management schools as dilemma scenarios to develop a process of analyzing challenges, examining alternatives, and constructing strategies of response...I thank Shri Veeresh Malik on her (Divya Singhal) behalf...
The contents of this book are eye-popping. This book should be mandatory reading for all Indians. Be warned reading this book can be injurious to your blood pressure!
Just an Indian is a book about one man's struggles against a corrupt system. The story is related through a series of letters, and reads much like a diary. The strength of this book is not in literary perfection Malik makes no attempts at serious editing (a good thing in my opinion). This book is important because most of us disastrously underestimate the extent of corruption in India. It's important because it shows the reader that there IS a ray of light at the end.
And it's important because, as you read on, the story becomes inspiring. I doubt that most of us have the commitment and tenacity of Varun Arya, the protagonist in this book. But if all of us could show a fraction of his determination...
This is the true story of pursuit of dreams and accomplishing a great deal, without compromising on values and principles.
From humble beginnings, the subject of the story has risen to be a path-breaker in education and development in one of the more challenged areas of India. Fighting the battle against corruption is not for the faint of heart. Varun has shown great mettle in using every legal tool (including the Right to Information Act of 2005) and moral tactic (indefinite fast) to expose the wrong-doers.
Full disclosure Varun is a personal friend of mine.
I think very highly of this book, though it does have some flaws. Some parts are repetitive, which becomes tiresome; others have a few small portions which are not translated to English, so I unfortunately was unable to appreciate the full message of those parts.
